Bright Sunny Days

I found the instructions for these flowers on the back of the package of one of my Spellbinders dies last week and these are so much fun. The die I used is from the Small Pinking Circles dies. First off you need to cut out cardstock and choose embrodiery thread to use. I used 3 strands for these. 6 strands was too thick. tape the end of the thread to the back and start wrapping. The amount of spikes that you leave in between determines the width of the thread design. Just keep wrapping until all the spikes are covered and you have a great embelishment all by itself. Or you can do a couple sizes and then layer them up with other flower pieces.

I used 2 layers of dimensionals on this top flower so it really sticks up.
2 different sizes of spirellabilities.

Add some Stickels or rhinestones and you have a fun flower.

Because my swimming pool still is not up and running KayLynn is forced to play in a wading pool with a bucket. Does she look like she cares. It is water and it is hot outside. This is the new Basic Grey Lime Rickie paper. It is so bright and colorful I just can't believe it. It is perfect for kids layouts. I hand stitched along the right hand side and used some of the rub ons that you can buy that go with this paper. KayLynn and I also decided that we needed the little stamp set that goes with. No examples here. Love the background cardstock also. This one is embossed with flowers. Here is a close up of the spirellabilities.

More birds and flowers.

And here is the second page. I just love those birds. I also really like my little Coolpix L18. It works so well and it is so nice and compact, and it is red. Look at the way it catches the water and water drops. The background paper is embossed with leaves on this page.

For the flourishes on these pages I used a stitching template and then cut out the shapes. The journaling spot here is a rub on that I bought to go with this set.

I used some more of my new Graphic 45 paper for this. I love the photos here. This was some kind of party at our house, I think I was 2 or 3. And there is my mom (left photo) in her pearls and my sister (right photo) in her pearls, where are mine? This is the first time that I have used the circle format and not mounted it to a 12"x12" piece. I like this and it fits the page protector just fine. I cut out the flower vines and then added flowers that I made using die cuts and I cut out a bunch of the butterflies from one of the pattern papers. The other butterflies are from the dollar store. The lace that surrounds the photo is from my Mother-In-Laws box of linnens that have been stored in a box in the hall closet for years now. I am going to start using these pieces on LO's. They should be enjoyed by all of us.

This is a card I made using my new Queen Kat Mermaid stamps. Is she cool or what? Go check out all the new stamps at http://www.katstamps.com/intro.htm. This is some of the new Cosmo Cricket paper. I have been buying a ton of paper lately. I so need to stop that and get busy making more stuff.

Time to excersize, so I can get into a different size pants. Ha Ha! Day 5 up to 40 minutes today. I hope.

Have a great weekend.

Two New Layouts

This is a Layout that I did for 52Sketches52Weeks for the week#19 challenge. If you haven't looked at this site, http://52sketches52weeks.ning.com/ , you really should. There is a Design Team call going on right now. I think I have to try again. Fingers crossed. Anyway I used Basic Grey Wisteria papers for this and I did some experimenting with some Golden Matt Medium on the background. I like the way it looks like wax. This is a photo I took of my nieces Megan and Caitie a few years ago in one of my photography classes. The gold paper at the top and bottom of the photo is cut from a gift bag from the dollar store as well as the butterfly, they come in packages of 6, how great is that? I die cut the flowers from some different mulberry papers and pattern papers and then added some Matt Medium with acrylics. I just love trying all different papers for flowers. Yum!

This is a layout I did for a Design Team project at Pages In Time http://pagesintimestoresite.ning.com/ You can find all the papers I used on this layout in the online store. These are papers from Little Yellow Bicycle and Stemma. First I distressed the background using the smooch and lift technique and then I used the negative of a Tim Holtz mask to outline the flourish and I used glitter paint and pink glitter to go with the other elements. This is a photo of Johanna and Kylie on their trip to Hawaii last week. My niece and great niece. Aren't they cute? And the background makes me want to go. Anyway I decided to add some silk flowers into the mis this tine and layer them with paper after I colored them with ink and some gel pens.

I used chipboard covered in DP and them put a coat of Mod Podge on it to make it shimmer. That baby just has the cutest little smile and the hat is to die for.

Have A Great Week.

It Is Almost Friday Time Flies

I just wanted to share these two lay outs with you real quick . This first one is for 52Sketches52Weeks http://52sketches52weeks.ning.com/ the Sketch #18. Oh yes I didn't tell you all I also won the prize for last week for Sketch #17. I'll photograph it and post it when it comes in. I love getting prizes in the mail, it is just like Christmas. Anyway, back to this Sketch. When KayLynn lays down to take a nap sometimes we go right to sleep. Other times she is a total pill and we don't get a nap at all and I really need my nap when I have her. This is one of the days I just gave up and took photos instead. The flowers on the side are stamped with Staz-On onto acrylic and then I used Alcohol Ink on the back to give them color and them I layered them with white or patterened paper.

This is the other layout I did last weekend using Studio 45 papers. I just love this stuff. I started with distressing the background using my Dremel Tool and the barrel sanding attachment. I tried burning the edge of the flower print paper but it didn't work out so well. For one thing do not do this at your desk. Fire, paper, glue and more paper just waiting to all go up in flames. I fortunately saw the error in my ways before something really disastrous happened. I am getting better at burning though. My brother in law told me a good way to do it. For the half circle I used a template to cut the scalloped edge and then I punched the holes, backed them with scotch tape and poured glitter over it. I like the red pom pom trim and I haven't done bead work in any of my things for awhile so I thought I'd get the beads out.

For the tags, I stamped the images (Queen Kat Designs You have to check out the new stamps at http://qkd.blogspot.com/ Start there and then go to the Store. ) in memento Black and embossed them with Clear embossing powder. Then I used distress ink and Stampin Up' ink pads to smoosh and lift the color. I then stamped a word image also QK Stamps and a border by Inkadinkado and added some embellies to finish the tags off.

I really like all the little embellishments. I used tags from the Studio 45 tag sheet that I bought and build a brad by Stampin Up' and I also used thesee pretty little silver flower like brads and rhinestone brads from SU. The

I also added some rhinestones, hardware, washers colored with Alcohol Ink. This was a really nice one to do and you might notice that I did not use any flowers. Can you believe that.

Well I need to get back to work on my other layouts. I can't wait to post those for you especially since on will be my FIRST http://pagesintimestoresite.ning.com/ assignment.

Have a nice weekend everyone. I plan to.

The Helper Dog and a new flower design

I did this layout for the 52Sketches52Weeks #18. Pearl just loves to run around with those plastic flower containers when George is out potting plants. I used Basic Grey Marakesh paper for this along with a pizza cardboard plate. You know those frozen pizzas? George brought one home (it was really good) and all I did was wipe the surface down with a sponge and it got the outer paper wet enough that it just pealed right off. When it dried all the way I dry brushed acrylics all over it and then zig zag stitched it to the background paper.

I cut flowers from the pattern paper and also did some die cut flowers. One of the dies I used was a new Spellbinders, Spirell-Rounded Petals. When I looked at the back of the package there were instructions for this technique where you wrap embrodiery thread around the spikes that stick out. You can adjust the diameter of the inner circle depending on how many spikes are in between the thread.

On this blue flower I only had three in between I think. I also filled the center with Crystal Effects. The larger flower on the left has Stickels dabbed and drawn on to the petals.

I used a Tim Holtz mask on the upper and lower parts of the layout and then used distress inks to shaed all around them. I also sprinkled a little water all over to get that speckled effect.

Have a Good Weekend again everyone.

A quick post

I did this layout in one evening and the next morning finished it up. I think what took the longest was making the flowers for it and cutting out all the little critters. It was so much fun. I really like this sketch. it is by a gal named Charlotte Hartley and you can find more of her sketches on http://pagesintimestoresite.ning in the gallery.
As long as I am on the subject of Pages In Time Karen just announced our Artist Of The Month and her name is Finnabair. Her work is just amazing and you can see a bunch of it in the Pages In Time Gallery and she has a blog at http://tworzysko.blogspot.com She is a great insperation to me. Every time I look at her work it makes me want to go scrap. We have a lot of people like that in our little community.
Okay, back to this layout. So the sketch is by Charlotte and the paper is DCWV and there is one of my altered pieces of paper in there and some cardboard. Here is a close up and you can see some of the flowers. I used some white silk flowers from the dollar store, taken apart and then to color them I just laid them face down on the ink pad and then I used a small sponge to pounce the back of the flower to pick up the color. I used buttons for the centers.
I have a new spellbinders, two new ones...Sunflower Set 2 and Spirell-Rounded Petals. And I just looked on the bck of the package for that one and found a great idea for something to do with this. Some of the flowers or parts are cut from the pattern paper.

I stamped a few of the images using a new Hero Arts stamp I bought a week ago because I just couldn't resist. I have a lot of rub-ons that I have been collecting the past few years and not wanting to use them for some odd reason and I just decided that I really should get the most out of the . You will be seeing more rub-ons from now on. I ran a bead of puff paint all the way around the brown border piece and zig-zag stitched the inner circle and one of the borders. I just love that little brown owl.

Have a really good day everyone.

NSBD Challenge

Today is the big day. National Scrapbooking Day. Yea! Get on over to Pages In Time http://pagesintimestoresite.ning.com/forum/categories/fun-and-games/listForCategory and join us for some Challenges , Games and Chat. The Design Team Has Been working overtime to put this day together for you and if you run and look you will see that we did an awsome job too. You Can Win Prizes. The one with the most points at the end will win a $10 gift certificate to the Pages In Time Online Store and then each of the challenges have a small individual prize that you could win. See mine below.
So here is my Challenge for you today. This is a Sketch I made for you all and there is one little Twist. I would like you to use some acrylic somewhere on this. You can make a Card or a Layout with this, whatever you have time for. I did a layout and you can see it here, below. You can use any type of acrylic, store bought, overlays, plastic packaging or milk cartons. Just get it posted over at Pages In Time in the gallery and in the corresponding forum discussion and then leave me a comment here too please by Midnight Monday the 4th and I will enter your name in the pot for a prize from me. This is the prize I will be giving out. These are some altered papers that I have made that make great backgrounds for cards and layouts, some fun stuff in blues and greens. Sorry about this photo but it was dark when I got these all together and it still is dark. There is also some of my hand made flowers a couple of hand made background stamps, these are so much fun I'll have to tell you more about that another time, some ribbons and a few patterened papers that go with everything. Have fun and good luck.

Plastic packaging is the best and what a great way to recycle. I just discovered milk cartons work well too.You can cut the plastic with sissors, paper cutter, and Big Shot or Cuttlebug. You can stamp on it, draw on it, run it through your Big Shot or Cuttlebug with the embossing folders and you can use Alcohol Inks on it. Theese are some of the pieces that I used for the flower bases.

This is my finished layout based on my sketch. I love my spider so much I named him Skip. LOL We have a million of these and sometimes they even come in the house. Not the best place for spiders. Here is a close up of smoe of the flowers I made for this. There will be a few like this in my prize.

I cut a large scalloped circle from a left over plastic wrap from a scrapbook kit I hac bought at Costoc last year. You can find plastic covering almost everything these days. Anyway I cut a smaller circle mask and then used alcohol inks to color the edges.

A close up of Skip and some of the flowers.

Don't forget to leave me a comment here when you upload your photo over on Pages In Time so I can enter you in the drawing for my prize .

Have Fun And I Hope To Hear From YOU Soon.
